Données sur la reproduction et la taille de première maturité du homard Homarus gammarus d'Iroise et du golfe de Gascogne ArchiMer
Latrouite, Daniel; Leglise, Michel; Raguenes, Gérard.
This paper deals with the lobsters caught by French fishermen off the "Conquet" (Iroise sea) and off "Ile d'Yeu" (Biscay Bay) on the French atlantic coast. The size at first maturity, defined as the size at which 50 % of female are able to reproduce, is deduced from the analysis of size frequency in landings. It is also shown that more than 50 % of the mature female are spawing each year ; the periods of hatching in the natural environment are also established.

Physiological maturity and relationships of growth and reproduction in the red mangrove crab Goniopsis cruentata (Latreille) (Brachyura, Grapsidae) on the coast of São Paulo, Brazil Zoologia
Cobo,Valter José; Fransozo,Adilson.
This investigation provided information on the physiological sexual maturity and relationships of growth and reproduction in Goniopsis cruentata (Latreille, 1803). Collections were made monthly from January 1995 through December 1996, on the northeastern coast of São Paulo State, Brazil. The crabs were grouped into juvenile males; adult males; juvenile females, and adult females, including ovigerous ones. For each specimen the carapace width (CW) was measured, and molt condition and macroscopic developmental stage of the gonad tissue were recorded. CWs of physiologically mature crabs were between 21.4 and 23.7 mm for both sexes. This population showed molt activity in all size groups throughout the study period, which suggests continuous growth and the...

Reproductive biology of the Brazilian blind electric ray Benthobatis kreffti (Chondrichthyes: Narcinidae) Neotropical Ichthyology
Martins,Mariana F.; Gadig,Otto B. F..
ABSTRACT This study provides information on the reproductive biology of the Brazilian blind electric ray Benthobatis kreffti, endemic to southern and southeastern Brazil. Individuals were caught by bottom trawl carried out in 2003 and 2007, at 492-501 m depth off the São Paulo State continental slope. A total of 152 females (115-299 mm) and 144 males (91-243 mm) were sampled. Maturity was first observed at 177 and 162 mm, with total length at 50% maturity of 191 and 176 mm in females and males respectively. Uterine fecundity ranged from 1-3 and was not related to female total length. Size at birth estimated from the largest near-term observed embryos and smallest free-swimming ray was 91-100 mm. The low fecundity observed is typical of deepwater...
